Picasa3 had the ability to write Face data back to the file using the Metadata Working Group (MWG) XMP Face Schema, as well as GPS Coordinates back to the image EXIF Metadata, so applications which support those standards would be able to read this information. This allowed me to share these "digitally labelled" photos with others that could use any number of photo viewers to view the identified faces (Picasa was not required).ĭoes anyone know if there is any photo program out there now that can support these features (facial recognition and being able to write that to the metadata)?įrom an archival perspective, you should pick an application which supports recognized photo metadata standards. Picasa 3 was also able to save that information (the name and location of each face) to the photo's metadata, which was key because that allowed any photo program that reads the metadata to be able to use the name and location of each face - you didn't need Picasa 3. Specifically what I was able to do with Picasa 3 was to use the facial recognition algorithm to locate and identify each face in the photo. Several years back I spent a lot of time using Picasa 3 only to see Google discontinue support. I'm looking for a program to organize my old scanned family photos (jpg and tiff formats). I just did a search of this sub to see if someone recently asked this question, and I don't see that anyone has really addressed this specifically.
